Over $1 billion dollars are spent annually in the United States in an effort to surgically correct pelvic organ prolapse. Prolapse is the third most common indication for hysterectomy in the general population and the most common reason for uterine removal in women over 50 years of age. Over the past century, hundreds of operations have been devised in an attempt to treat these extremely common conditions. Yet, prolapse is not cured by surgery, but rather often traded for bowel and bladder dysfunction, chronic pain, sexual disability, and musculoskeletal deformity.

While the conventional medical community cites such things as vaginal childbirth and heavy lifting as causes of prolapse, there is rapidly growing evidence to substantiate the Whole Woman™ premise that loss of pelvic organ support, although exacerbated by such things as modern obstetric practice, is primarily a postural and lifestyle problem in women. Women no longer sit, stand, move, or give birth like they did as the blueprint for the human body came into existence. The basic geometry of the human female body virtually guarantees adequate support of the pelvic organs. Only when this design is compromised are women placed at risk of developing prolapse.

Whole Woman, Inc. strives to give women a deeper understanding of the design and working of the female body, and also help them comprehend the risks and limitations of reconstructive pelvic surgery. Although pelvic organ prolapse is the most prevalent women's health disorder of all time, virtually no woman knows about this set of conditions until she herself becomes symptomatic. When women learn from each other just how common and manageable these conditions are, very often a sigh of relief is expressed as they begin their own journey of living well with prolapse. The Whole Woman charter exists to facilitate this process.
